There are two kinds of kayakers… Ones who’ve likely learnt the hard way before eventually making a gear check list.. Then those that still need to learn. Be the one having made a check list. Forgetting gear has happened to the rest of us, and it “will” happen to you too most likely if you don’t! Forgetting to pack your paddle or knife or anchor or PDF will likely mean heading back home and missing out.

Make a check list (laminate) of all the gear so nothing is forgotten each trip!

  • Load your Kayak
  • PFD Personal Floatation Device
  • Sunscreen (and buff)
  • Food and Water
  • Cap/Peak
  • Fishing permit
  • Paddle + leash
  • 2x trolling rods – with leashes
  • 1x Spinning/jigging rod with leash
  • Fish Finder & Battery – My fish finder is attached to Kayak so all I need to remember is my battery (charged)
  • Gaff – preferably a longer gaff. Those big fish don’t always want to come too close willingly.
  • Sharp Knife
  • Long nose Pliers
  • Box with trolling lures
  • Box with spinner/s and jig/s + a few odds and ends
  • Anchor System
  • Tow rope (or can use Anchor system)
  • Couple of traces ready for action (bottoms, floating line)
  • Couple of extra teasers
  • Leader Line
  • Fish Bag or Box to transport your fish in – We prefer the white meat container over Fish bags.
  • Milk Crate, to make it easy to get your gear from car to kayak
  • GoPro/Camera – Always fun to have evidence of that one that you “released” (charge batteries)
  • Tape Measure – To measure the length of your competition winning fish
  • Sunglasses (Preferably polorized)
  • VHF Radio – You don’t need a radio… really nice to chat to fellow kayakers and listen in on where fish are coming out
